What's new in BrightWork 15.12?

The BrightWork 15.12 release has the following main updates:

Boards Updates

You can now change the caption on a Board column. For example, if a status value is '(1) Not Started', you can change the column heading to 'Not Started', making it easier to understand.

You can also default a column to its collapsed state.

Project Cache Mapping Updates

The Project Cache Mapping now supports Projects Tracker lists when mapping a column to the Project Cache.

Configure Work Cache Inclusion Criteria

It is now possible to configure which list items are included to the Work Cache. See Configure List Items to Include in the Work Cache for the steps.

Security Updates

To maintain ongoing compliance with U.S. Federal and State security requirements, an update to a web handler page in BrightWork has been applied.

Usability Tip - Ribbon Quick Access

Clicking on the information icon will now open the ribbon as well as the web part's information dialog.

How can I upgrade BrightWork?

If you want to upgrade the latest version of BrightWork, visit the Product Download area of the BrightWork Success website.

Choose the version of SharePoint you are on and select Browse Download.

If you are logged into the website and have product download access you will be brought to the relevant product download site for that version of SharePoint.

If you are not logged in you will be brought to a request form where you can either log in or request product download membership. Product Downloads are for customers who have an active support and upgrade plan.

Use the instructions on the Upgrade BrightWork page to start upgrading to the latest BrightWork version.

If you are installing for the first time, then use the instructions on the Install BrightWork page.

How can I activate the new 15.12 features

Most updates are available automatically with this release. Template changes however need to be made manually or new templates created. The changes made to templates are:

  1. Updates to Board web part default configurations.
    1. The Task Board in the Project Lite, Project Standard, and Project Structured template now have the following changes made to their default configuration:
      • Swimlane settings: Select Choice: Priority
      • Columns to display in Card Settings:
        • Task Name
        • Assigned To
        • Show percent complete
        • Finish Date (Highlighted)
        • Priority: Yes (Not Highlighted as it is in a swimlane)
        • ID
        • Refresh each time a card is dropped
    2. The Work Board in the Work Tracker template now has the following changes made to its default configuration:
      • Swimlane settings: Select Choice: Category
      • Columns to display in Card Settings:
        • Task Name
        • Assigned To
        • Show percent complete
        • Finish Date (Highlighted)
        • Priority: Yes (Highlighted as it is NOT in a swimlane)
        • ID
        • Refresh each time a card is dropped
  2. The Project Cache is now the default source for reports in Project Areas and Project Offices. Follow the steps here to learn how you can switch to using the Project Cache for cross-project reporting.
  3. In Project Lite, Project Standard, and Project Structured, the first 'Get started with your project' tile on the project home page has been renamed from 'Setup Project' to 'View Project Statement'. Click on the 'Get started with your project' link and modify the title of the first item in the list to replicate this change.

How can I find my BrightWork version number?

  1. On your BrightWork home page, click the settings icon in the top right, then click Site settings.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click BrightWork Settings.
  3. You will now see the Version number.

How can I renew my BrightWork support and upgrade plan?

Support and upgrade plans are renewed on an annual basis. You will be contacted approximately 45 days prior to the expiration of your plan with the details required to start the renewal paperwork process. If you have BrightWork already installed, in SharePoint Central Administration, click General Application Settings and then click Manage BrightWork License.
